I linked to a Binaerpilot release a few weeks back when writing about the CandyMind label.
Well, I just found the Binaerpilot (or Binarpilot if you can get the oomlots over the a) website and it is definitely worth checking out. There is some really nice, funked out C64/Chipset tunes free for the DL.
Highlights in the available archive include Bend, She Looks Like an Angel Now, Fuayfsilfm and the Daft Punk remixes.

OK, be honest. If you got an email from your aunt telling you about her grandson’s band and their new video on YouTube, you might have somewhat modest expectations for said video. Compounding this is that the last time I saw Ian (my cousin’s kid) he was maybe like six or seven years old playing a Game Boy. So I sorta figured the primary action here would be going on in somebody’s garage.
Imagine my surprise when I actually liked the song and the video. And that’s saying something considering that I usually prefer stuff that is off the grid., which this isn’t. And that’s not to say that it’s pedestrian. It’s just a bit more accessible than the genre bending stuff I normally highlight here.
It’s pretty damn professional. And given the quality, it’s understandable why they are now signed and why they played at SXSW.
Damn, I must be getting old if ‘little’ Ian is grown up and cutting videos.
Anyway, check out my cousin’s kid’s band, also known as Marion Square.
And if you like what you hear, you can (at least for now) download their album by visiting their homepage.
By the way, I know things been gone slow here of late. I’m in the process of getting caught up on some stuff that wasn’t getting done due to STP and Jen is in the middle of a relo. We’ll be back with some regularity soon.

Since we are now at 4,000 US casualties and five years in Iraq, I thought it might be interesting to look at polling data from the first few months in Iraq:
ABC News/Washington Post, March 20, 2003
“Do you think there will or will not be a significant number of U.S. military casualties in the war with Iraq?”
Will 37%
Will Not 55%
No Opinion 8%
Zogby, March 14-15, 2003
“Would you support or oppose a war against Iraq if there were hundreds of American casualties?”
Support 46%
Oppose 47%
Not Sure 7%
Zogby, March 14-15, 2003
“Would you support or oppose a war against Iraq if there were thousands of American casualties?”
Support 43%
Oppose 50%
Not Sure 7%

I’ve highlighted a few Autres Directions in Music releases before here on the Outpost. So far I haven’t heard one release from the Autres catalog that I wouldn’t at least call interesting and itinerance by tony is no exception.
Perhaps best described as a series of structured cacophonies, itinerance offers a melange of found sound, rough acoustics, and gentle electronics. And somehow it all comes off quite nicely.

Fans of old time jazz will enjoy the treasure trove of Ted Lewis transfers available at archive.org.
Probably the best collection is this one.

Some interesting reactions to yesterday’s announcement by Bill Richardson that he is endorsing Barack Obama.
First, Clinton strategist (using the term loosely) Mark Penn called the endorsement insignificant because Texas had already voted You see, since Bill Richardson is hispanic. So now that all the hispanics have voted in Texas, there’s nothing to be won in Penn’s eyes from a Richardson endorsement.
Secondly, some folks have been echoing this notion that richardson should be somehow beholden to Clinton because WJC nominated Richardson to two cabinet level positions (reportedly Clinton himself has made this suggestion, too).
This second point really bothers me because it makes a WJC appointment look like nothing more than a political favor to be called in later. And if that really is the view of the Clinton team, let’s flush them now.
James Carville is no stranger to controversial statements, but his characterization of the endorsement makes him seem a bit thin-skinned:
Mr. Richardson’s endorsement came right around the anniversary of the day when Judas sold out for 30 pieces of silver, so I think the timing is appropriate
Wow!

Lost in the shuffle of what’s fair for the voters of Florida and Michigan is the question of what’s fair for the superdelegates hailing from these two states. You know them: the esteemed party leaders who, according to insiders such as Geraldine Ferraro, possess the requisite vision, leadership and judgment to do what is best for the party even if it means overturning the will of rank-and-file voters.
By all accounts, the two states’ superdelegates would be seated along with the pledged delegates in the current proposals for dealing with the ’situations’ in Michigan and Florida . But why?
Given the current fiasco facing the party as a result of these two states moving up their primaries, shouldn’t all notions of superior vision, leadership and judgment by these states’ superdelegates be discarded? And shouldn’t their superdelegate status therefore be forfeit?
